SKYLIGHT RESTORATION

A bird's eye view of the First Church of Christ, Scientist oxidized copper dome with skylights restored by Acurlite, in New York City.

PRESERVING THE PAST

Original skylights on historic buildings can play a significant architectural role in the exterior of the building, while also helping to illuminate spectacular interior spaces. The work to restore old skylights often involves repairing and sometimes re-designing structural elements. Many historic skylights are difficult to access for repair, and it is common to find poorly repaired, leaky skylights on older buildings.

Our engineering and project management staff has a vast understanding of how other manufacturers’ glazing systems work. They will evaluate and give you an estimate on repairs and/or advice on how to solve the issue.

NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART

This one-of-a-kind mansion built in 1917, formerly the Guggenheim estate, then a private country club for IBM employees, is now one of the most impressive looking country clubs on the East Coast. With the motif of an 18th-century Spanish villa and ambiance that screams classic European design, the courtyard skylight is the focal point of this building.

The building, originally constructed in 1983, used a fiberglass insulated panel in the skylight which deteriorated over time and caused unsightly and watertight issues. The owner decided to replace it with a glass double pitch skylight which provided a beautiful daylight solution over the swimming pool area.
