Delaware County Veterans Memorial

Newton Square, Pennsylvania: The Delaware County Veterans Memorial is a Symbol of Strength and Perseverance. The association first was proposed in 2013, as a way to recognize and pay tribute to fallen armed forces members from Delaware County. The complex provides county-wide K-12 education programs both onsite and conducted in schools, as well as recognition events honoring local veterans and education leaders who are dedicated to keeping the Association’s program moving ahead. Flag Raising tributes for deceased veterans as among the most honored events held onsite.

The Hall of Prayers is an imposing structure that rises above a busy highway, welcoming community members from all parts of the County to reflect, remember, learn, and celebrate the history of the United States Armed Forces. It is an open-air chapel designed to represent a fallen tree with its roots firmly planted in American soil.  The structure represents the wounded warrior who will not fall or give up due to the support of their fellow troops and support from home.  The interior of the Hall of Prayers contains 50 messages to Veterans from all 49 Delaware County Municipalities and Delaware County Council.

Acurlite was honored to top off this beautiful structure with a unique faceted polygon skylight. This jewel-like geometry was conceived many years before by the original designer and finally realized in 2018. During the day, the skylight provides natural light to those visiting the chapel. In the evening, artificial lighting within illuminates the skylight creating a lantern for the complex. This impressive structure serves as a landmark drawing visitors to the complex, and highlighting the importance of the space for the local community to remember.
